Knots – The #1 reason for loosing fish.
The weakest link for most fisherman is the knot. Poor knots
account for the majority of lost fish and lures. Many fisherman only use two,
the Palomar and the Clinch knot. With todays extended variety of fishing lines,
tackle, and ways to rig bait, having more options is a good thing. So at www.JustSportfishing.com
we thought we would reintroduce what we feel are the eleven most needed to know
knots for todays fisherman
The diagrams are easy to follow and
come with a brief description. The items on www.JustSportfishing.com

and print them for your personal reference. When tying knots, always lubricate
them with saliva before snugging them tightly and finish off by pulling the tag
end firmly. Then trim the excess fishing line leaving an 1/8” to
1/4” depending on how heavy your line is.
The
Berkley Braided
Knot
This special
knot has been extensively tested by the Berkley staff and has proven to be one
of the best for use with the new braided lines.

This knot is used to join to lines of similar size together, also used frequently by fly fishermen tying there own leaders.

The Clinch Knot is one of the most widely used knots for tying a line to a hook, lure, or swivel. The most critical aspect of this knot is how many turns are made around the standing line. Many fisherman believe that the correct number is 5.

This knot is one of the strongest knots. Good for tieing at the end of lures with a mono leader. Use when maintaining strength is important.

The Nail Knot is generally used to attach fly line to fly line backing. This knot can also be used to attach a leader to a line. This makes a strong smooth knot that rolls out when casting. The nail knot is good for attaching two lines of different diameters.

Ideal for heavy lines and saltwater lures. Allows the lure to swing free for proper presentation.

This is a special
knot used for attaching a swivel to a double line or looped line. Used
for offshore trolling to tie a hook, lure, or fly to heavy monofilament.
Pass the the swivel through the loop at least 6 times.

The Palomar Knot is a general-purpose connection used in joining fishing line to swivels, snaps, hooks and artificial lures. The double wrap of line through the eyelet provides a protective cushion for added knot strength. A very strong knot that is ideal for bare hooks and bait.

This is an excellent line to lure connection that allows for good action on retrieval. Any lure or fly that requires free movement.

The Arbor Knot provides the angler with a quick, easy connection for attaching line to the reel spool.

One basic knot which can be varied to meet virtually every knot tying need in either fresh or salt water fishing.
